A CONVERSATION WITH CINDY
Diamond Director, Stella & Dot
Cindy was exactly who you think of when you picture a forty-something stay-at-home mom living in Ohio. She was married with three daughters and spent her days running her household, carpooling her girls to sports, and being involved in their schools. Then, one day, her ideal family life was turned upside down and overnight, Cindy became the primary provider for the family. Cindy is an extraordinary example of perseverance, strength and resilience.
What makes you ordinary?
I'm a stay-at-home mom of 3 girls from Ohio.
What makes you extraordinary?
7 years ago, with no direct sales experience, I launched my Stella & Dot business. Since then I have grown a team of over 3,000 Stylists, advanced to the highest Stylist career title in the company, and earned over $1 million dollars.
What obstacles did you find in your path?
Two years into my Stella & Dot business, my husband was incarcerated and sentenced to an 8 year prison term for a white collar crime. Overnight, I became the sole breadwinner for our family, with a mortgage, 3 girls approaching college, and an uncertain economy.
Which p did you use to create the extra?
PERSEVERANCE. I decided to believe in myself, focus on what I could take responsibility for, show up to life every single day and do the best I could with what I had!
What did you learn?
A set-back is just a set-up for you to realize that you are stronger than you know.
"Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much." - Hellen Keller
My daily Starbucks latte :)
How do you pass it on?
I share my story, with no shame, because I know the human experience is riddled with challenge. I want others to know know that we are resilient beyond measure and can survive and thrive, even in the face of incredible struggle. I was just ordinary, until I needed to become extraordinary. If you are struggling, don't forget - you are stronger than you know.
